How to Build an AI Research Team in 5 Minutes (No Coding Required)
How to Build an AI Research Team in 5 Minutes (No Coding Required)
Every business needs research. Whether you're sizing up competitors, exploring a new market, or finding content ideas, research is the foundation of good decisions.
But research takes time. Hours of reading, summarizing, and organizing. What if you could delegate it to an AI team that works 100x faster?
You can. And it takes less than 5 minutes to set up.
What You'll Build
By the end of this guide, you'll have a fully functional AI research squad that can:
- Research any topic and summarize findings
- Analyze competitors and extract key insights
- Compile research into clear, readable reports
- Fact-check and review findings for accuracy
What You Need
- An internet connection and a browser
- 5 minutes
- An API key from Anthropic or OpenAI (if you don't have one, it takes 2 minutes to get — just visit console.anthropic.com)
That's it. No coding. No terminal. No YAML files.
Step 1: Create Your Account (1 minute)
Go to ivern.ai/signup and create a free account. You get 3 squads on the free tier — more than enough for a research squad, a content squad, and one more.
Step 2: Add Your API Key (30 seconds)
After signing up:
- Go to Settings
- Click Add API Key
- Paste your Anthropic or OpenAI key
- Click Save
Your key is encrypted with AES-256 encryption. Ivern never stores it in plaintext or shares it with anyone.
Step 3: Create a Research Squad (1 minute)
- Click Create Squad
- Name it "Research Team"
- Add these three agents:
Agent 1: Lead Researcher
- Click Add Agent → Select the Researcher template
- This agent will be your primary researcher
Agent 2: Data Analyst
- Click Add Agent → Select the Data Analyst template
- This agent will analyze and visualize research data
Agent 3: Report Writer
- Click Add Agent → Select the Writer template
- Rename it to "Report Writer"
- This agent will compile findings into polished reports
Click Create Squad. You're done.
Step 4: Assign Your First Research Task (30 seconds)
Here are some example tasks you can assign right now:
Competitor Analysis:
"Research the top 5 competitors in the [your industry] space. For each competitor, identify their pricing model, key features, target audience, and main marketing message. Present as a comparison table."
Market Research:
"Research the current state of the [your industry] market. Include market size, growth trends, key players, and emerging opportunities. Summarize in a 2-page report."
Content Research:
"Find 10 trending topics in [your industry] that would make good blog post ideas. For each topic, note why it's trending, what angle to take, and target keywords."
Step 5: Review Results (2 minutes)
Watch your agents work in real time. You'll see:
- The Researcher gathering information
- The Data Analyst structuring the findings
- The Report Writer compiling everything into a clear format
Review the output, request changes if needed, and export the results.
Tips for Better Research Results
Be Specific
Instead of: "Research competitors" Try: "Research the top 5 project management SaaS companies under $50/month. Focus on their onboarding experience and customer reviews."
Use a Multi-Step Approach
For complex research, break it into tasks:
- First task: "Identify the top 10 players in [industry]"
- Second task: "For each company identified, research their pricing and key features"
- Third task: "Compile all findings into a comparison report"
Assign to the Right Agent
- Factual research → Researcher
- Data analysis and trends → Data Analyst
- Report compilation → Writer
- Quality check → Reviewer
What This Costs
Research tasks are among the most affordable AI operations. A typical competitor analysis task costs about $0.02–$0.10 using your own API key. That's less than a cup of coffee for hours of research.
Real Example: Competitor Research
Here's a real task we assigned to our Research Squad:
Task: "Research the top 5 AI agent platforms (CrewAI, AutoGen, LangChain, Paperclip, Ivern Squads). Compare them on ease of use, pricing model, target audience, and key features."
Results: In under 2 minutes, we received:
- A comparison table with all 5 platforms
- Pricing breakdown for each
- Target audience analysis
- Feature comparison
- Key differentiators
Total cost: $0.04
